Disaster's queen fish teaser baits!

During the week Team Mini Me's were training for the upcoming Billfish Classic Competition which will be held by Broome Fishing Club in August.

This year the Lifers of Bulldog and Wokky are finally allowing the kids to step up and give it a go. So this year the team will be called "Mini Me's" - the skipper will be Bulldog, the anglers will be me, Eric Locke, and my
sister Kelly Locke, Wokky and his son Dylan Wockner. So we went out this week to test our skills by trolling for around about four hours trying to catch billfish, but not even sighting any, until we got to disaster rock.

Apparently this is excellent training for the competition week as some teams fish all week and not get a fish! Hopefully this will be our only time not sighting any billfish!

However, the queen fish at disaster are getting to a perfect size to make teasers for the competition, so rather than waste the day, we set about catching bait.

To catch them we used metal slices while slowly trolling.

But we discovered that although there was a lack of Billfish, there were plenty of big sharks and bronze whaler sharks out there. Wokky found this out when he had thrown a queen fish back and a pack of sharks took to it in a feeding frenzy that would stop anyone from putting their toe in the water.

There are still good size mackerel, trevally, and barracouta out there to catch and plenty of dolphins to keep you amused.

So I'll see you on the water.
