A wise man once said nothing is impossible except taking your underpants off over your head. This has nothing to do with Broome Touch 09 season uno but last Saturday’s action certainly did.
Games were tighter than a fishes tight bits and i’m not talking about Fish from Scoregasams either.Game one saw Notre Dame and Touch is Life go at it in a see-sawing sort of deal for the Social B Division title. With a minute to go Notre Dame found themselves down by one. By full time they were up by 2 - Touch is Life as they say! Notre Dame had finished on top of the table come season’s end so the 9-7 was well deserved, but it wasn’t all upset and chuck a wobbly from Touch is Life with ‘the gladiaetter’ Karen Salkilld and Steve Boniwell claiming the grand final MVP’s. Sam Stafford and Sarah Lavis finished Social B season MVP’s.
In social A the SMC Titans combined age only equated to half of Eddie Dwyers, that experience saw Ed’s Matsos Maulers home despite a terrific second half comeback from the Titans. A few long distance gallops from the Maulers saw them win 10 - 6. Grand Final MVP honours went to Jacob Watters and Tamie Bartlett. Alan Armstrong and Carla ‘Big Kev’ Rudd claimed MVP honours for the social A season. The undoubted game of the arvo/evening/night was Wanabees v Scoregasms for the B Division title. We’re calling it the No Country For Old Men Affair - it was a thriller, had us on the edge of our seat and we’re still not really sure about the ending.
Regardless Wannabees claimed the title with a 6-5 victory, but not before scores were tied 5-5. The proceeding drop off boiled down to 4 aside with varying versions of male female representation depending on who the slippery eel spoke to. In the end Wannabees claimed the victory, Ronnie Francis and Julie Bonner the Grand Final MVP’s. Jude Graffen salvaged some joy for Scoregasms with the Season MVP. Young gun David Goodwin won the male MVP for Division B.
Speaking of juniors Luke Turner and Hannah Morgan claimed the junior MVP’s for the season and will no doubt be signed by Soul Survivors within the week. Speaking of which...The final game of the night was the surprising A grade grand final between those Soul Survivors and Greenbacks - who would have thought?
These two old foes battled it out as we all knew they would, and with scores tied at 3-3 at the break anything was possible. That anything resulted in two more tries to SS and a 5-3 win. Lisa Lloyd claimed the female MVP for the backs ‘o green and self confessed greatest player ever in the history of the world Pat Moase won the Grand Final MVP promising to compose an ode on his achievements on the field and keep quiet about his refereeing.
Thankfully he didn’t win the Season MVP with that honour bestowed on a much more deserving Damian Parriman. Sarah Highlands claimed the female season MVP and will take over as coach of Soul Survivors next season no doubt. And that was that another season - until next time tight lines everyone and buy a bloody yearbook....
